Native Plant Collaborative Series – Permaculture and Organic Gardening Techniques

photo of lush green gardenPlease join Carroll County Master Gardeners and Northwest Arkansas Master Naturalists, Jerry Hembd and Mariellen Griffith, who will discuss Permaculture and Organic Gardening Techniques.

What is Permaculture? It is a philosophy of working with, rather than against nature. It is a systems approach that involves thoughtful observation not thoughtless labor, looking at plants and animals in all their functions rather than treating many areas as a single product system.

Jerry and Mariellen share their expertise in:
-Making a plan for your garden specific to your environment
-Building and amending the soil – Composting
-Controlling pests through Integrated Pest Management
-Methods of Gardening
-Conserving water

This program continues the series of free educational programs and workshops offered at the Eureka Springs Community Center and produced by the Eureka Springs Parks & Recreation, the Northwest Arkansas Master Naturalists, the Carroll County Master Gardeners, and Wild Ones – Ozark Chapter. These great groups have formed a collaborative to propagate native plants for use in Eureka Springs parks and to share their knowledge with the rest of us.

Native plant hikes and seed collection events will also begin this spring, with propagation of native plants in the community greenhouse beginning in the fall. Those who participate in volunteer workdays will receive free native seeds and native plants to take home with them.

Please note: the session will take place in Suite A-3, Eureka Springs Business Center.
